BoC hikes to 2.5%, BMO raises prime to 4.70%

The Bank of Canada raised its policy rate to 2.5% from 2.25% on Oct 28, and BMO lifted its Canadian prime lending rate from 4.45% to 4.70%. Higher rates can support net interest income and margins, a short-term positive for bank profitability, though they also raise funding costs and credit-stress risk.
